1. Check Your Eligibility
Supported Operators: Upgrades are currently available for our partner operators (check the app or our FAQ for the latest list).
Valid Tickets: Confirm you have a valid Standard ticket or an existing booking reference that’s eligible for upgrading.
2. Add Your Trip
Enter Your Booking: Simply open the Seatfrog app or go to your online account, then add your train journey details using your booking reference or ticket number.
Receive Instant Availability: We’ll show you whether an upgrade option is available for that particular journey. If it is, you can either join an auction or choose a fixed “Buy It Now” price (when offered).
3. Choose How You Upgrade
Auction:
- Set a Max Bid: Decide the most you’d pay for a First Class seat. We’ll handle the bidding automatically, so you never pay more than your limit.
- Real-time Alerts: If you’re outbid, we’ll notify you right away, giving you the chance to raise your bid if you wish.
- Final Result: Once the auction closes, the highest bidder wins the First Class upgrade - no hidden fees or extra steps required.
Buy It Now:
- Skip the Auction: If you’d rather lock in an upgrade immediately, select the “Buy It Now” price when it’s available.
- Instant Confirmation: Your upgrade is confirmed instantly - ideal for those who don’t want to wait for an auction to end.
4. Enjoy Your Upgrade
Automated Ticketing: After your upgrade is secured, Seatfrog updates your digital ticket or sends a new one. Just present it at the station as you normally would.
Added Comfort: Relax with more space, complimentary refreshments (depending on operator offerings), and an all-around improved travel experience.
5. Key Tips & FAQs
Instant wins: If you bid high and early, you could be an Instant Winner - completely bypassing the auction. Result.
Timing: Auctions typically open a few days before departure and can close anywhere from several hours down to 30 minutes prior to your train leaving - check the app for specific details.
Group Upgrades: Traveling with others? You can add multiple passengers to your booking and, where available, place group bids.
